Ram Nath Kovind - The President of India



Ram Nath Kovind   is currently serving as the 14th President of India. He is serving as the President since 25th July 2017.


Early life & Struggle:-
Kovind was born on 1st October 1945 in Uttar Pradesh. He was born to a very poor family who lived in a mud hut. It was a very tough situation in Kovind’s life when his mother passed away owing to a fire accident.
He used to walk for 8 kms daily for his schooling. He overcame all the struggle and finally became a graduate in LLB from DAV college affiliated to Kanpur University.

Career Span:-
After completing his graduation, Kovind started preparing for the Civil service examination and passed it. Further he went on to serve as an advocate in Delhi High Court from (1977 to 1979). He later served as served as a standing counsel for the Central Government in the Supreme Court of India from 1980 to 1993.
He was elected and became a Rajya Sabha MP from the state of Uttar Pradesh in April 1994. He served a total of twelve years, two consecutive terms, until March 2006.
On 8 August 2015, the then President of India Pranab Mukharjee appointed Kovind as Governer of Bihar. On 16 August 2015, the acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Iqbal Ahmad Ansari, administered the oath to Kovind as the 35th Governor of Bihar. The function took place at Raj Bhawan, Patna.

Presidency Campaign 2017:-
          After being nominated for the post of President of India . Kovind resigned from the post of Governer of Bihar.
          Kovind was nominated for the post of President of India along with Miera Kumar (former speaker of Lok Sabha).
Kovind received 2,930 votes (From MPs and MLAs) amounting to Electoral College votes of 702,044 which accounts to 65.65% of votes. Whereas Miera Kumar received 1,844 votes (From MPs and MLAs)  amounting to Electoral College votes of 367,314 which accounts to 34.34% of votes.

Family background:-
          Kovind was the youngest of five brothers and two sisters. He married Savita Kovind on 30 May 1974. They have a son, Prashant Kumar, and a daughter, Swati.
