Li-Fi (light fidelity) Technology
Definition:-
Li-fi is a technology used for wireless communication. The communication between devices using light as a medium to transmit data at a very high speed.
Introduction:-
The term Li-Fi was first introduced by Harald Hass at TED Global talks. Professor Harald Hass belongs to Germany and is a Professor of Mobile communication in the University of Edinburgh.
Overview:-
The working of Li-Fi is pretty similar to Wi-Fi. The only difference being Wi-Fi used radio frequency to transmit data whereas Li-Fi used light to transmit data. The advantage of using Li-Fi over Wi-fi is that it has higher bandwidth and has greater speed on comparison.
Technological Stacks:-
The optical communication used LED's (light emitting diode) as a medium to transmit data for communication at a very high speed.
Visible Light Communication works by switching current to LED's to turn on and off at a high speed. The process is too quick to be identified by the naked human eyes. In other words it can be said as a semiconductor diode operating with a signal processing technology. The data is embedded to the beam and it is transferred at a very high speed to a photo detector.
Working:-
The Future:-
The 5G technology could be possibly based on Li-Fi. The experimental speed is about 10GBPS which is about 200 times more than the fastest broadband connection.
This technology is bound to become reality in the near future as developed countries like USA,UK has invested billions of dollars regarding this project.

Working:-
- The switching signal from the transmitter control module controls the switching of LED.
- The light sensitivity sensor senses the flickering of LED and converts it into an electrical signal.
- The electrical signal is then processed, analyzed and amplified. This amplified signal is sent to Ethernet media.
- The Ethernet media is used to convert the amplified signal into optical signal or light signal
- The ICS communication cabinet facilitates the media conversion from Ethernet to control signal. The fiber optic cable carries the control signal.
- The control signal converts the optical signal into Ethernet compatible electrical signal. This electrical signal carries the information to the OAP. The OAP receives the electrical signal & it is further encoded into a certain frequency of switching signal. The switching signal is further sent to the high speed LED light driver.
